A Burpee Mile, 1609 metres, 800+ burpees

So today I did the dreaded burpee mile. Words can’t express how pleased I am to have ticked that one off my challenge list so I’ll leave it to the pictures taken by the very talented Ruaridh of Eindp Scotland Sports Photography.

Very grateful to my wonderful PT and friend, Joda Quigley, of Tartan Warrior Fitness for training and support.

This one has to be worth a wee donation, every penny donated will make a real and significant difference to the charities we are supporting so please give if you can.

Eek! What am I doing?!

Feeling very nervous this morning as the day of my burpee mile has arrived. One full mile, 1.609km, for walkers an average of over 2000 steps, a distance that feels short in a run but that I’m sure will feel like a marathon when travelled by burpee…between 800 and 1000 burpees to be specific.

I’m off to Grangemouth Stadium at 11 to meet my wonderful PT and friend, Joda, who is sharing the hell with me and will, without a doubt, give me the courage to reach the end.

Currently focussing on some of my fave motivational quotes to keep me positive as I get ready, here are the thoughts that are keeping me going:

Believe you can and you WILL!

Surround yourself with people that reflect who you want to be and how you want to feel, energies are contagious.

Life is short, have fun!

And…my mum’s making boozy trifle for after tea so I’ll definitely have earned a big bowl of that sweet deliciousness…it is all about balance after all.

Beautiful Lochnagar

Earlier this month we took on the stunning Lochnagar Circuit, climbing five Munros in one day. Beautiful scenery, fab weather, a few challenging bits, some scrabbling near summits and lots and lots of walking. The 5 x hills, plus a few wee detours to look at the scenery, meant we covered just over 20 miles in around 9.5 hours. Another one from my 5 Decades, 5 Challenges, 5 Charities list ticked off.

As well as the stunning views we saw deer, hare and rabbits, loads of different birds and even some wee frogs on the paths.

The five magnificent Munros we bagged were:
1) Lochnagar
2) Carn a Choire Bhoidheach
3) Carn an t-Sagairt Mor
4) Cairn Bannoch
5) Broad Cairn

First of four Kiltwalks ticked off the list :))

So our year of challenges is underway, last Sunday we completed Kiltwalk‘s 23.2 mile Glasgow walk, taking us from Glasgow Green to Loch Lomond.

This is the first of four for us as this year we are putting our best foot forward in all of Kiltwalk’s 2019 events. Next on the list is Aberdeen, followed by Dundee and Edinburgh. Just under 100 miles all in and if Glasgow is anything to go by we can’t wait for the next three.

They say people make Glasgow and one of my favourite things about Kiltwalk is the wonderful people you meet along the way, the stories, the sadness, the joy, the determination, camaraderie and just sheer fun of the day make it a truly wonderful experience.

The pit stop partners providing encouragement, cheers and tasty treats to keep everyone going, the kind hearted Kilties who give their time for free volunteering to ensure everyone has a great walk, the entertainment at start, end and along the way and the smooth as clockwork logistics planning that keeps the event running on time, safely and efficiently are all fabulous.

And of course there’s the picture opportunities along the way too…who can resist a Kiltwalk selfie. a snap with Oor Wullie or in the giant RBS chair?

Fun, fun, fun and thankfully all our training meant no sore legs or feet…back on the treadmill the following morning for me.

Resume Treadmill Training

If you’re thinking of donning your tartan and giving Kiltwalk a go I’d say GO FOR IT! The three distance options mean the event is accessible to all fitness levels and the support of your fellow walkers definitely helps you go the extra mile when needed.

We’ve also got the following challenges still to complete this year, it’s going to be a fun year!

  • Lochnagar Circuit (5 Munros)
  • The Murph Challenge (run a mile, 300 squats, 200 push ups, 100 pull ups, run another mile)
  • A burpee mile (as horrific as it sounds)
  • A run (still to decide which)

Thanks to those that have supported our efforts so far. Full fundraising details for the 5 charities we are supporting are coming soon. Our charities are; Epilepsy Connections, Dads Rock, Flexible Childcare Services Scotland (OPFS), The Beatson Cancer Charity and The Trussell Trust.

Turning 50 my way, making it a wee bit less scary and a whole lot more meaningful. ;))

Training on Tinto Hill

We’re back to normality this week after a wonderful festive break, we’ve kept active with lots of dog walking, some canicross and a very cold but stunningly beautiful climb up Tinto Hill with our dogs, Scout and Toby. Tinto Hill, located near Biggar is just over 700 metres high with a fairly easy path most of the way, there are a few steeps bits and the last climb to the summit has lots of loose rocks making it fun, achievable and a wee bit challenging…perfect training for our planned Munros.

We used our Non Stop dog harness kits leaving our hands free to make the climb easier. Scout and Toby did a fabulous job of pulling us up the hill, it was Toby’s first hill climb and he took it all in his stride.

Our dogs love our active lifestyle so will be joining us in lots of our training, we’re looking forward to reaching the summit of lots more hills but will definitely keep Tinto in our training plans.

A beautiful morning on Tinto Hill
